Do you really want to pay through the nose for a ready-made storage shed when you could easily build your own top quality shed from storage shed plans in just a few days and save yourself hundreds or even thousands of dollars?
So you have decided that you need a storage shed and have done all your research. If you haven’t, here are a few things you should think about.
1/ Just what is the shed going to be used for? Is it going to be simply a storage shed or is it going to be used as a workshop too?
2/ How much space do you need? Bear in mind that you may want to factor in a bit of space for growth. It is a lot easier to find space in a bigger shed than it is to be jamming stuff in the roof-space of a smaller one.
3/ What do you need in the shed? For example shelves, roof storage, workbench etc.
4/ Is the shed going to be a feature of your property, or is it going to be hidden from view. If it is the latter, then you can perhaps build from less attractive and cheaper materials to keep your costs down.
5/ Are you constrained by a budget, if so do a bit of research before you get carried away with fancy windows and expensive top quality timber etc.
6/ Where are you going to find a good set of plans that is going to tell you exactly how to go about building the type and style of shed you have finally decided upon?
A couple of months ago now, I was in the same position myself and I was lucky enough to come across the perfect solution to the problem when a workmate introduced me to a great guide he had found, which outlined all the Secrets of Building a Great Storage Shed from storage shed plans
For many people the two major deciding factors in the buy or build it yourself decision are DIY skills and personal finances.
Did you check out the retailers first to see what was on offer in terms of pre-made sheds? Man did I get a shock price-wise when I did, those puppies are not cheap! The marks ups some places were charging were pretty astronomical!
I was looking at around $3500 for a pretty basic 8×12 cedar shed which I felt was pretty steep to say the least, considering it was probably a few hundred dollars worth of wood and maybe the same in hardware and glass.
I did call a couple of local contractors and see what they were prepared to come up with. Quite honestly their quote was pretty much the same as the retail price, so no saving there .
I was talking to a buddy of mine I met down the mall one day and he told me that he had built a really good shed a few months previously from a set of Storage Shed Plans he had downloaded from the Internet. I went back to his place and he showed me the shed he built. It was a beauty, sturdy and attractive and just as good as the ones I had been looking at.
I got him to show me the website. The guide was called simply ” My Shed Plans ” by a guy called Ryan Henderson an expert woodworker of 20 years experience. I took a good solid look at what Ryan had to offer and was pretty impressed.
